Widespread Storms Across Australian East Coast

Social Media Shares:

Friday 29th of January 2016 was a day that had a fantastic set up according to the models. Numerous predictions were made of supercells and tornadoes, although ultimately the day was somewhat less spectacular than it could have been. There were however some severe cells producing strong winds and heavy rain, particularly on the eastern Darling Downs and border ranges areas.

At Hervey Bay a woman was shocked by a lightning strike and a man was killed by a falling tree.

The storms developed late in the day after temperatures reached 36 C in places with high humidity. The storms were triggered by a trough connected to a low pressure system in southern Australia, which has been producing severe weather throughout eastern Australia over the last few days.

It sure was a pleasure chasing with Duane and Drew from Channel 10's Totally Wild this afternoon on the Darling Downs....
